The Faculty of Law at the University of Göttingen invites applications for a permanent professorship with civil servant status (grade W3 NBesO) at the Institute for Commercial Law effective at the earliest possible date:

W3 Professorship in Civil Law as well as Law of Digital Economy
(Data Law, AI Law, Media Law and/or Copyright) (f/m/d)


We are looking for a team-oriented and committed scholar who will represent Civil Law as well as principally the Law of Digital Economy (in particular Data Law, Data Protection Law, AI Law, Liability and Digital Contract Law, Copyright etc. as an interdisciplinary matter), potentially together with Capital Market Law (cryptoassets etc.) in research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to cooperate on an interdisciplinary level, to participate in the LIPIT Master’s programme and in the Campus Institute Data Science (CIDAS). The post-holder will be further expected to focus on further research in the field of Digital Economy as well as to develop concepts for research-oriented teaching within the specialised training programmes. In addition, the holder of the position will be expected to acquire third-party funding and to participate in cross-faculty research.

Appointment requirements are stipulated by Article 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act in the most current version of that law. As a rule, junior professors and other members of the University of Göttingen who obtained their doctorate from this university can only be considered for a professorial appointment if they have changed to another university or worked for a minimum of two years in research elsewhere after completion of their doctoral thesis. The University of Göttingen is a Public Law Foundation and thereby entitled to award professorships. Details will be provided upon request.
