Services Ombudsperson and Complaint Management

The Ombudsperson's services include:

  • Consultation in difficult study-related situations where students cannot find a solution on their own
  • Mediation between students and teaching staff/employees or student groups in study-related conflicts, moderation of conflict discussions
  • Acceptance and handling of study-related complaints and suggestions to improve individual study situations and study quality for all students (Complaint Management)

The services are aimed at prospective students (from initial information to the end of the application process), students of all degree programs (including medicine), and former students (up to one year after graduation).

Important to know:

All concerns are handled confidentially and impartially. Personal data of students or data that allow conclusions to be drawn about students are only shared with their explicit consent.

Anonymous reports are possible but can only be processed if the issue is fully described or if there is a possibility for follow-up questions. To establish an interest in finding a solution, allegations against individuals will only be pursued by the ombudsperson if the informants reveal their identity at least to the ombudsperson.

Silja-Katharina Haufe, Ombudsperson at the University of Göttingen

Since 2024, Silja-Katharina Haufe has been the Ombudsperson and Complaint Management for Teaching and Learning. In this role, she supports students confidentially in difficult study-related situations. Previously, she was responsible for the Complaint Management for Teaching and Learning for ten years. She earned a Master's degree at the University of Göttingen and has completed various further training, including training as a systemic counsellor.
