Previous studies

  • B.A.-degree or equivalent degree
  • At least 150 Credits at the time of application
  • Eligibility: required are
    • achievements in Ancient Studies (Ancient History, Prehistory and Early History, Classical Philology, Egyptology, Ancient Oriental Studies, Late Antiquity) or Cultural Studies (Ethnology, Cultural Anthropology) amounting to at least 60 credits, including knowledge in the field of Classical Archaeology amounting to at least 40 credits, or
    • achievements in visual science (art history) or architectural history to the extent of at least 60 credits, including achievements in the field of classical archaeology to the extent of at least 40 credits.

Language requirements

  • If your antive language is not German, you must proof sufficient knowledge of the German language: Proof of German language skills
  • For the Single Honours MA (double degree with the University of Palermo):
    • Knowledge of Italian at the level B1 of the CEFR
    • The proof must be provided within one semester after enrolment; in this case, enrolment is conditional until the applicant has provided the missing certificates.
    • If the proof is not available by the end of the 1st semester, the transfer to the Joint Honours MA totalling 42 C takes place automatically.
  • Prerequisite for admission to the Master's thesis is proof of sufficient knowledge of Latin to the extent of the "Kleines Latinum" as well as Ancient Greek (basic knowledge of at least 4 C).
  • Knowledge of the most important modern languages (English, French and, depending on the profile, Italian and Modern Greek) is recommended.
