Measuring technology

The department has numerous metrological solutions for evaluating innovative technologies and forestry work processes according to ecological, economic and ergonomic aspects. The equipment includes test stands for analyzing the pressure distribution among single tires, bogie axles and other chassis variants. The department also has measurement technology to measure the tractive effort and fuel consumption of self-propelled machines. The equipment for recording mechanical vibrations enables the analysis of whole-body vibrations when operating self-propelled machines and hand-arm vibrations, for example when using chainsaws. The department can assess the workload during physically strenuous activities with the help of a spiroergometry unit. For the performance analysis of chainsaws, the department has a performance test bench for small engines.

Traction

A comparative evaluation of the traction behavior when using different vehicles can be realized using different approaches, e.g. via a tensile load cell.

Fuel consumption

To analyze the fuel consumption of self-driving machines, a modular measuring amplifier system makes it possible to access signals from the vehicle's data network or it can be recorded using a flow measurement sensor.

Ergospirometry

The ergospirometry unit analyzes the amount and composition of the exhaled air of the test subjects and enables the calculation of the internal energy expenditure for an activity. Thus the workload is measured.

Power analysis of chainsaws

The quantity and composition of the exhaust gases from 2- and 4-stroke engines can be analyzed on the chainsaw test bench to assess a work process. This is particularly important for protecting employees against pollution.
