Our research at the chair focuses on quantitative and qualitative empirical VET research. It combines the development of digital learning and examination environments (simulations and XR) with competence diagnostics and VET system research in the area of training quality and drop-outs. In addition, learning and examination environments are developed in the field of university didactics and in particular for vocational teacher training. Our research focuses on determining when and how XR environments including simulations, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) can be effectively utilized in vocational education. Simultaneously, we leverage these environments and the insights gained to enable prospective teachers and trainers to design and develop their own virtual instructional settings. Our research focuses on how competencies can be diagnosed in digital settings and promoted using AI mechanisms (AI-based prompts). At the same time, we use such environments in the training of teachers and trainers who diagnose competencies in self-created virtual teaching sequences in an office simulation. We also develop and evaluate digital examination environments We are examining the impact of high-quality training in vocational training companies and schools on the development of professional competencies among apprentices. Our research focuses on identifying key aspects to consider at the meso level (organizational) and micro level (instructional processes). We examine factors at the individual, organizational and systemic level that lead to dropouts in the context of the dual system. We explore how video holograms can be used for classroom reflection in order to develop professional distance and criticality in one's own teaching and to improve the explanatory skills of trainers and teachers. We explore how attitudes towards one's own profession, in particular, professional and company identity develop after choosing a profession during the course of initial vocational training.
