Press release: Göttingen University is again No. 2 German university in world rankings

Nr. 182/2013 - 18.07.2013

The Times Higher Education: Georgia Augusta places 70th among the Top 200

(pug) In its overall world rankings, the authoritative British magazine Times Higher Education (THE) has listed the University of Göttingen 70th for 2012/13, making it the second-best German institution of higher learning once again. Compared to the previous year, the university showed improvement in the categories international outlook, research, citations and industry income - innovation. This is the third time the ranked list was refined based on a new methodology. According to THE, less weight was placed on the institutions’ reputation and tradition. Rather, the list now better reflects the core missions of a university: Teaching, research and knowledge transfer.

The overall score for each university was based on weightings of data gathered on 13 separate performance indicators. These were brought together into five headline categories: Teaching, Research, Citations, Industry income and International outlook. In its own words, THE is the only ranking worldwide that considers the subject mix of teaching and learning environment. Once again, the data posting was powered by the media conglomerate Thomson Reuters.
