Press release: Göttingen University forges eResearch Alliance

Nr. 129/2014 - 10.06.2014

Support for research and teaching with digital infrastructures at Göttingen Research Campus

(pug) eResearch stands for the promotion of teaching and research using technology and computer science driven by high-performance innovative research and information infrastructures. Göttingen University is the first German university to forge an eResearch Alliance aimed at providing institutional support to researchers, scientists and scholars at its Göttingen location. Accordingly, the objective is to co-ordinate, adapt and further develop IT and information infrastructures campus-wide, whilst making their provision not only future-orientated and cost-efficient, but sustainable as well. The eResearch Alliance is run mutually by the Göttingen State and University Library (SUB) together with the Computing and IT Competence Centre Göttingen (GWDG).

The SUB and GWDG are united by years of collaboration as evidenced by numerous successful projects in the field of eResearch. The researchers, scientists and scholars at the Göttingen Research Campus (GRC) work closely together on establishing and expanding their joint offerings. Alongside the University of Göttingen, eight non-academic research institutions at the Göttingen location belong to the GRC.

"Given the growing demand for IT and data-based eResearch services coupled with the fact that digital research and information infrastructures are increasingly penetrating research disciplines, the eResearch Alliance represents an important factor for the sustainability of the Göttingen Research Campus,“ emphasises Professor Norbert Lossau, Vice President for Infrastructures at Göttingen University. The offerings being developed by the eResearch Alliance in the coming years include setting up digital infrastructures for the humanities and the natural and social sciences. Furthermore, counselling and training courses will be offered and services set up for research data management. Further information is available online at www.e-research.uni-goettingen.de.
